No Fear Shakespeare :Hamlet

I read Hamlet, a 337 (644= double pages) page tragedy by William Shakespeare. It was about prince Hamlet trying to get revenge on King Claudius for murdering his father. Hamlet finds out about the murder in the beginning of the play where King Hamlet's ghost explains how he was killed by Claudius. Hamlet proves to himself that the ghost was telling the truth about Claudius and ends up killing him in the end. A happy ending, right? No, not in this play. During the scene where Hamlet kills Claudius, Hamlet gets struck by a poisonous foil held in the hand of Laertes while they were fencing. Then, Hamlet's mother drinks a glass of poison on accident. Finally, Hamlet scratches Laertes with the poisonous fencing foil. So, most of the main characters die in the end. Some themes of this play would be deception and Appearance vs. Reality.

Dragon Road

Dragon Road, by Laurence Yep is 290 pages. Its about a two young boys that play basketball just like kids at recess. They go around making a little money in Chinatown playing other minors like them. Then, all of a sudden, they get the shot of a life time to go and play pro-basketball with a team called the Dragons. They travel around the country playing with the BIGS and having an awesome time. I'm going to end this bleet on that exciting note because I don't want to give the rest of the book away. This book is perfect for pretty much everyone unless you think that if you don't play basketball, you shouldn't read it.

The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas

This 220 page book by John Boyne is really heartwarming. Its about a boy named Bruno who lives a regular life at his home in Berlin, Germany. Then, he moves to a house called "Out With" that has a big fence that goes on 'forever' across the street. Bruno meets a boy named Schmuel that is a Jewish captive of the Nazis. Over time, Schmuel and Bruno become best friends and have many great meetings.  I don't want to summarize the rest of the book so if you read it, try to finish this summary. Read this book if you are not afraid to cry.

"The Christmas Shoes," by New Song, reminds me of my granny who always bought sparkly slippers for Christmas. When she died, 3 weeks before Christmas, they played this song at her funeral.

My Weekend

This weekend I had 1 baseball tournament, 2 baseball practices, and 1 book to read. I had 4 games in the tournament, 1 Saturday and 3 today. Sadly, we lost in the championship and ended up 2nd...... My first practice was at Chukchansi Park (Grizzlie Statium) and my second one was at Figarden. I haven't finished my book so far, but I think I'll finish by tommorow. I just got up from my nap with my grandma's dog, Harlie. I was so tired from my awesome weekend of sports and reading!!!:)
